Family Service of Champaign County

For 100 years, Family Service has been supporting familys - across the generations - by providing quality human services. Family Service has three program divisions.

The Senior Resource Center assists adults age 60 or older - and those with friends or family members age 60 or older - by providing an array of services designed to meet the needs of older adults in Champaign County. Services include information and referral, advocacy, Meals on Wheels, non-medical in-home support, transportation, situational counseling, support for family caregivers and grandparents raising grandchildren (also available for those living in Piatt County) as well as elder abuse investigation and intervention (also available for those living in Piatt County).

RSVP provides adults age 55 and older with opportunites to match their talents and interests with the volunteer needs of community organizations in Champaign, Douglas, and Piatt Counties. RSVP offers mileage and meal reimbursement if needed, insurance, placement assistance and well-deserved recognition. RSVP is located at the Stevick Senior Center, 48 Main Street, Champaign, which also serves as a drop-in center for RSVP volunteers and other seniors.

Family Support Services provide information and referral, counseling, Children First training, and coordination of Support Groups through it’s wide array of services available to Champaign County residents of all ages. First Call for Help provides callers with assistance locating community resources and services throughout Champaign County. Children First provides divorcing parents the opportunity to learn about and discuss the impact divorce has on children. The Self Help Center provides information on self-help and support groups in the Champaign-Urbana area and surrounding communities. Finally, the Counseling staff provides the assistance of professional therapists to help individuals, couples, families and children resolve conflicts arising from personal issues and relationships.

Canteen Run

Sharing the love of God by helping those in need by providing basic food, clothing and other information 3 evenings a week. We take out the Salvation Army disaster relief (canteen) truck to several areas around the community, passing out food, water clothing, helpful information, along with hope and love to those in need in C-U

ECI SCORE (East Central Illinois)

SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to educating entrepreneurs and helping small businesses start, grow, and succeed. SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and has been mentoring small business owners for more than forty years. ECI SCORE (East Central Illinois) is made up of local experienced business owners and managers who use their experience, knowledge and resources to help individuals and/or small business owners achieve success. Volunteers counsel and mentor clients and help presemt low cost workshops. All counseling is FREE and confidential.

Salt & Light

Salt & Light is a 501(c)3 ministry serving families and individuals in Champaign County who are at or below the poverty line. We do those in a number of ways including a food pantry, clothing closet, financial literacy programming, computer technology, and special events focused on meeting specific physical needs.

Illini Union Office of Volunteer Programs

The Office of Volunteer Programs (OVP), a division of Student Affairs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, opened in the Fall of 1989 to promote community service and volunteer activity. One of its main functions has been to provide a clearinghouse where volunteer opportunities can be matched with willing volunteers. The OVP continually strives to increase students’ awareness of the needs of the Champaign-Urbana community. University students compose the volunteer base who offer their time to help not-for-profit organizations with service projects. Conveniently located at 288 Illini Union, the Office of Volunteer Programs also does the following: provides informational resources on volunteerism; advises student service organizations; connect student groups and agencies; connects the C-U community and the University; offer consulting to strengthen community service-related programs; educates students about community service via workshops; and conducts outreach with community agencies and student groups.

The goal is to enrich the educational experience of students, faculty and staff at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign by fostering collaborative relationships and partnerships within the community."
